SHEILA MCCARTHY

BJP Associate

Sheila commenced as a BJP Associate in 1970 teaching the Juniors. When Mrs. Doris Masters retired in 1973, Sheila became the only teacher of the Club for many years. Sheila also successfully competed in Ladies and prior to Physie taught all forms of dance in Wollongong, including ballet and tap. After 50 Years of teaching in 2019 Sheila retired from Syllabus teaching. Sheila teaches the Ladies Gentle Exercise Classes.

CANDICE WOLFSON

BJP ASSOCIATE

Candice has done physical culture herself for over 55 years and commenced as a BJP Associate in 1975.  Candice also sits on the Board of Bjelke Peterson School of Physical Culture, the association to which Gladesville Ryde Physie belongs. Candice teaches the Beginner Ladies and Open Ladies Syllabus.

JANELLE MITCHELL

BJP Associate

Janelle joined our teaching team in 2009, with a love for Physie from an early age, Janelle competed as a junior and senior with her hometown Club in Dubbo NSW. Since she has lived in Sydney, Janelle has been a member of the Gladesville Ryde Physie, successfully competing in Champion Lady and Teams. Janelle holds a Certificate in Group Fitness and is a qualified Xtend Barre Instructor. Janelle is also completing her Personal Training Qualifications. Janelle teaches the 5 years to Open Senior Syllabus and the Saturday morning Preschool Class.

SAM REDWIN

BJP Associate

Sam found Physie shortly after arriving to Australia from the UK. Gladesville Ryde Physie provided Sam an opportunity to challenge herself and learn a new form of dance and movement. "As someone who moved away from friends and family, the club has provided a supportive, caring family environment which I am proud to be part of.” Sam's enthusiasm and love of her new found sport grew further as she joined the Teaching Team working with the Preschool class. In 2021 Sam will expand her Teaching reposonsiblities as a BJP Associate and will also teach the 5 Years to 12 Years Syllabus.  

KATRINA HASKEW

Class Helper

Katrina joined our teaching team in 2016 assisting with our Preschool Class and then our Junior Syllabus classes. Katrina has been a Physie “Girl” all her life and now competes successfully in the Open Champion Lady and Team Sections. Katrina started Physie when she was four just a little older than when her daughter Grace started at age three. Katrina joined Gladesville Ryde Physie in her late teens and returned again to compete in the Open Ladies section. Katrina shares the love of Physie with her two young daughters and her mum, all who are members of Gladesville Ryde Physie.

DANIELLE STEWART

BJP Associate

Dani has been enjoying Physical Culture for over 25 years – 15 years as a junior and over 10 years as an adult.  Dani joined the Gladesville Ryde Physie teaching team in 2017 as a BJP Associate.  Dani teaches the 13 Years to Open Senior Syllabus and the Beginner to Open Ladies Syllabus.

BAILEE FLECKNOE

Class Helper

In 2021, Bailee joins our Teaching Team as a Class Helper for the 9-12 Years. Bailee is a forever Physie girl who started her journey with the club when she was only 3 years old, and now she competes in the Senior Syllabus section. Bailee has also trained in ballet through the Royal Academy of Dance, and other forms of dance including jazz, contemporary, and tap and she brings a beautiful energy to any performance space. Bailee is looking forward to working with the younger girls and helping with more aspects within the club. She hopes she can be a positive role model and young mentor for the students with whom she will be spending her time. Bailee shares her love for Physie with 3 generations in her family, following in the (pointed) footsteps of her grandmother Sheila, a BJP associate, and her mother, Mandy. She is honoured to be continuing her family’s commitment to the club as both a student and this year, like the women in her family before her, as a teacher.

ABBY ANDERSON

Class Helper

In 2021 Abby joins our Teaching Team as a Class Helper for the 5 Years to 8 Years. Abby started Physie when she was 5 and now dances with our Club learning the 13-14 Years Syllabus.

 

Abby is a very dedicated and successful Physie girl competing at all levels of individual and team competitions as a Junior. Abby has also trained in jazz ballet and is a regular dancer at the annual Ryde School Spectacular. Abby loves physie as it challenges her and builds her confidence whilst having fun. Abby is looking forward to rising to the challenge of encouraging the juniors to be the best they can be.

LAUREN ROUSE

Strength and Flexibility Coach

Lauren joined the teaching team in 2020 as our Strength and Flexibility Coach with a genuine passion for finding the perfect balance between strength and flexibility. Lauren has a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy, a Graduate Certificate in Education and a certificate in Strength and Conditioning Corrective Exercise. Lauren has also completed the Easy Flexibility Stretching Techniques Training Certificate and the Flexibility and Kinesiological Stretching Specialist Certificate.

Lauren has danced for many years in a variety of styles including ballet, contemporary, jazz, BJP Physie and was also a competitive swimmer growing up. Lauren understands the importance of strength and flexibility to develop the skills and technique required to perform the Syllabus each year.

 

Lauren works with our girls and ladies in class and individually to set goals and improve their strength and flexibility.
